Campsite: First Camp Umea
Hello There! Wow, looking up at the picture we've come a loooong way since I last wrote an update!
Today, we drove the 150km odd up to Umea, a vibrant arty-foody-university town. We seemed to have crossed a magical line in that the weather and scenery has changed dramatically - the sky is blue, the forests are LADEN with snow and the lakes are frozen over. Absolutely breathtaking
We'll probably be here till the weekend. Temperatures have plummeted (record of -12 this morning). There is a snowstorm warning for tonight and tomorrow so we've hunkered down and will see how things go. Friday they are predicting a max of -14 and a minimum of -24. Crikey!
The campsite is fine although as usual, grey-water dumping is not possible so we'll have to dump via our 10m hose and the toilet building
During our travels now we've also picked up a few tips and tricks from the locals:
- Put your stabilizers/ levellers onto wooden blocks so they don’t freeze to the ground
2. Keep your electricity cable OFF the floor unless you want to be digging it out. Electricity Box - Tree - Tow Hitch - over the back tyres and into the vehicle
On a side note: Having the diesel heater repaired has made a massive difference to the ease of living - we honestly didn't know what we were missing.
With the temperatures dropping rapidly, our big windscreen is definitely a heatsink and the cab heater functionality of the diesel heater really makes the front comfortable and warm. Having said that, our Motorhome has been incredible with regards to providing a warm refuge and every time I walk back inside I have to smile :-)
Anyways, this is what we've been up to. We're going to weather the storm and tomorrow we'll see if we can't find the Sauna on-site. Sending hugs to you all
